Buttons don't always work

I love the ease of the neckband and the fact that I do not misplace my headphones! They do not slide off my neck when listening to only 1 earpiece like other headphones.
For the most part the headphones are fine. I find that if I pause my audio book and then attempt to restart the book a while later, the button does not "connect" with my phone to restart playing, I have to access my app on the phone and hit play. Also, if it does work - there is a delay in which I think it did not work and I press the button again to turn off the audio book after 1 word.
